To The Student

When you are faced with making course selections for the school year, choose carefully because the courses you choose will become the foundation for your future. Careful selection of courses will form a path to your chosen career. Career implies more than just a job; it includes education, work and lifestyle. Achieving a successful and satisfying career takes years of planning, studying, training and hard work. Choosing the right path to follow is one of the most important decisions you will make in your whole life. Remember, no matter which path you hope to take in life, the ultimate goal is the same for everyone--a successful and satisfying career. The following guide will help you determine what career pathway is right for you.

  • Visit your school's career center or library to investigate your interests and abilities. Also, students should take interest/aptitude assessments. Discuss your interests with friends, parents, teachers and counselors.
  • Review your academic record with your counselor. Note your strengths; your academic and elective choices should reflect your interests and your aptitudes (or strengths).
  • Make use of your campus College and Career Center and library. Various computer programs, materials and catalogs containing detailed information about careers and colleges are available.
  • Further investigate your career goals by interviewing people who work in your chosen career path.
